Mid August 2010 I received bad news from my doctor.
What had started end July as an insect bite or sting - at least I thought so - had developed into some lumps in my neck and they proved (by lab tests) to be caused by very aggressive cancer cells, caused by a Melanoma
After successful radiotherapy [similar to this one]
and alas ineffective vaccine immunotherapy my doctors opted for chemo therapy.
After 9 chemos it appeared on August 22, 2011 that the chemotherapy did not work for me anymore and the hospital searched for another treatment.
It appeared that my body has exactly the correct characteristics [i.e. B-Raf V600E mutation] for treatment with a new medication: 5 months ago my doctor could not have offered this to me!
This medication "BRAF-blocker" [click for more information] blocks the transfer of the multiplication signals to the cancer cell, so that the cancer cells stop multiplying themselves! In other words: the telephone line is cut.

Today I heard the results of the CT-scan: alas the BRAF therapy does not work for me anymore, which is a great disappointment of course.
Highest priority is now to control the cancer in my brain, which will be done via radiotherapy [similar to this one]. These radiations will take place during the next 2-3 weeks; after that decisions about further treatment have to be made.

Yesterday I was in Tilburg for the preparation of the radiations [5 sessions] which will take place during the next 2 weeks.
Earlier this week a sizeable tumour on my breast bone caused me so much pain that I could hardly breathe and/or move; right now I am receiving morphine as a sedation and that helps.
In Tilburg they are investigating if it is possible to do the brain and breast bone radiations in the same sessions.

I am just back home from Tilburg: the first radiation of a series of 5 has been done. Tomorrow they will also start with the radiation of my breast bone etc, so a combined session. I am very happy that this is possible! I am receiving morphine as a sedation and that helps fine.

The 2nd radiation has been done, now also of my breast bone. I am still receiving morphine as a sedation and that helps fine.

The 3rd 'combi' radiation has been done; I am still receiving morphine as a sedation and that helps fine.

The 4th 'combi' radiation has been done; as the hospitaI added an additional session I still have two sessions to go.
Please forgive me that I do not reply on individual e-mails rights: I lack the energy for that. But of course I am happy with your e-mails and I do read them!
Thank you for your interest in my health situation and above all: thank you for your prayers !
And as long as you see new images on my website - provided that my skies are clear and that I have access to the internet - you will know that all is well with me :o)))
Note: from mid November till mid February the sun is too low for my observatory; incidentally I might use my mobile imaging setup ...
The power of prayer along with modern medicine is great.
Meanwhile my wife and I find our strength in the Bible, Romans 8 verses 38 and 39:
"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
In His love
